Host Home Rescue Fair

Press Release

Date: Nov. 20, 2013
Location: Montclair, CA

With hopes of making the holidays brighter for homeowners struggling with their mortgage payment and facing the possibility of foreclosure, Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino) will host a Home Rescue Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, December 14th at the Montclair Civic Center.

"Being home for the holidays may not be possible for many homeowners in the Inland Empire facing foreclosure," said Congresswoman Negrete McLeod. "For thousands of distressed mortgage holders plagued by the fear of foreclosure, the holidays are not a time of joy and peace but rather a season of increased anxiety and uncertainty. If you are facing foreclosure or know someone who is, please attend this informative Home Rescue Fair. It may be the first step towards saving your home."

In cooperation with Montebello Housing Development Corporation (MHDC) and Neighborhood Partnership Housing Service, HUD approved agencies in Southern California, housing counselors will be available to provide resources and services to homeowners at risk of foreclosure. Housing counselors will offer fair attendees face-to-face counseling sessions and informative workshops in English and Spanish.

Translators will be available by request. Anyone seeking assistance MUST pre-register on-line at www.mhdcca.org.

Robert Monzon, MHDC Executive Director, said "Homeowners will be offered free financial counseling; alternative resources and information from housing counselors available to assist families."

"Whether it is out of fear, anxiety, or shame, many homeowners facing foreclosure do nothing until it's too late," said Monzon. "Our goal is to get distressed homeowners to face their situation head on, as hard as that might be, and to provide a path to anyone seeking a resolution to their financial problems."

As a state senator, Congresswoman Negrete McLeod helped pass the "Homeowner's Bill of Rights," that protects mortgage holders from the more common abuses of the foreclosure crisis. The measure became state law January 1, 2013. Recent media and industry reports indicate the housing market is slowly rebounding. However, with many homes falling into foreclosure, California's foreclosure rate remains one of the highest in the nation with thousands of homeowners in pre-foreclosure or bank-owned homes.

"Foreclosure devastates families, neighborhoods and property values," said Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod. "On this holiday season, let's fight back and help make "being home for the holidays' possible for those families facing foreclosure."

For mortgage holders planning to attend and receive counseling, on-line registration is required at www.mhdcca.org.
